STEFANO BREGNI ELECTED
IEEE DIVISION III DIRECTOR (2023-25)
Prof. Stefano Bregni of the Department of Electronics, Information and Bioengineering of the Politecnico di Milano has been elected on the Board of Directors of the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) as IEEE Division III Delegate-Elect/Director-Elect for term 2023-2025.
Dear Colleague,
I have served as a tireless volunteer in IEEE ComSoc for 25 years. I have a solid record of accomplishments in conferences, member services, and technical activities. I facilitated participation from all countries against economical barriers. I have always pursued the goal to contain expenses for attending ComSoc conferences, in particular looking at students, for example favouring less expensive locations. I opposed any increase of ComSoc membership fees. I created and I lead the ComSoc Student Competition, I revamped the new Global Communications Newsletter, I strengthened the Women in Communications Engineering Committee and launched the Child Care Program for parents at conferences.
As IEEE Distinguished Lecturer, in 7 years I visited 14 countries and 29 Sections/Chapters worldwide, always preferring areas where students have smaller opportunities to meet international experts. As Technical Program and General Co-Chair of several ICC/GLOBECOMs and other conferences, I worked hard to ensure the highest technical quality and improve the fairness and transparency of the selection process. I received the IEEE ComSoc/KICS Exemplary Global Service Award (2019) and the IEEE ComSoc Hal Sobol Award for Exemplary Service to Meetings & Conferences (2014).
With my hard work and dedication, I have earned my renowned reputation demonstrating uncompromised ethical integrity, solid competence, strategic vision, creativity, problem solving skills, attention to globalization and inclusion in all Regions.
These are facts and not just promises. To keep up, I need the votes of all those who know me and my personal commitment, disinterest and enthousiasm in serving ComSoc and its members. Every single vote will be important!
If elected, my diverse background and leadership skills will allow me to understand IEEE challenges, bring new concrete ideas, and lead their implementation. My priorities are defending the technical excellence of IEEE conferences and publications, ensuring equal opportunities and reinforcing the diversity of IEEE leadership, and facilitating the involvement of students, women, and young professionals in IEEE activities.
I commit to be actively engaged and move forward in harmony with other volunteers and staff for a stronger and healthier IEEE.
